SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 9
MOTION: Councillor A.M. Dermody
"That this Committee calls on the Manager following on from my motion asking for all green spaces to be identified as suitable for sporting/recreational spaces, to consider the large green space at Anne Devlin Road (off Ballyroan Road) as a space that could be made better use of. The Manager is to be commended for his playground initiate for the County; I am asking the Manager to consider widening his initiative to including exercise equipment similar to that installed by this Council off Templeville Road, in the green space at/near Cyprus Downs/Glendown. The age demographic in this area are predominantly older/retired people would benefit from such exercise equipment."
REPORT:
The provision of exercise equipment throughout the county in a selected number of open spaces and parks has been a generally successful one. Consideration will be given to including such equipment in the Anne Devlin Road area and with the agreement of the Elected Members and local residents. Such provision is dependent on the availability of the necessary financial resource to do so.
However, the funding for the Play Space Programme is directed at the provision of play opportunities for children over a five year period and it is not possible to divert this funding to other programmes.
