MOTION NO.2

MOTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin

That this Council agrees that social clauses and local employment contracts, such as those recently approved by the Department of Environment for Irish Water and the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform for the DIT in Grangegorman should be utilised by South Dublin County Council for all appropriate projects. The Council agrees that the Manager will bring a report to the next available OP&F committee detailing the background to these social clauses and local employment charters and outlining options for their implementation by the Council in forthcoming projects including the proposed library for North Clondalkin.

REPORT:

On the assumption of Council support for the principle of social clauses, further examination will be carried out of the opportunities arising for the imposition of such clauses, taking account of the nature and scale of projects, the funding sources and any conditions attaching, national policy and ongoing economic circumstances and a report will be brought before the OP&F Committee for further consideration
