UPDATE ON LOCAL PLAY SPACE 5 YEAR PROGRAMME

REPORT ON PROPOSED FIVE YEAR PLAY SPACE PROGRAMME
In the 3 Year Capital Programme and the 2014 Annual Budget Council Members agreed to undertake a Five Year Playground Programme commencing in 2014. In January 2014, proposals for development of spaces over the next 5 years were presented to the Area Committees and locations and timelines for implementation were agreed.
The Play Space Programme is aimed in particular at local open spaces that can cater for the 0 to 8 age group and that will allow for access by walking from local residential areas. The proposals will be developed around a combination of formal and natural layouts and initial image boards that outlined possible layouts were presented to each Area Committee to inform the discussion.
The next phase of the process will be consultation with local organisations, including with local residents groups, Comhairle na nÓg, adjacent community centres and schools and is expected to be nearing conclusion by the end of February. Along side this, tendering and implementation plans for each site will conitnue with the intention of having construction started in early summer 2014.
