MOTION: Councillor C. King

That this Council in view of the ever increasing difficulty of Housing applicants acquiring private rented properties as a result of being rent supplement recipients, calls on the Minister to introduce guidelines, rules or legislation if required to ensure that such people are no longer discriminated against on the basis of their economic status

REPORT:

Recipients of rent supplement payments from the Department of Social Protection generally occupy private rented dwellings on lease contract terms which are  a private matter between tenant and the owner of the rented dwelling.

If the motion is passed the members' sentiments will be conveyed to Jan O'Sullivan TD, Minister of State, Department of Environment, Community & Local Governemnt with special responsibilty for Housing and Planning.
