MOTION NO.11
MOTION: Councillor C. Bond
That this Committee calls upon the Council to assist the Educate Together and Gaelscoil in Firhouse in finding adequate accommodation for the 2014-15 School Year. Could the Manager provide a report on using a site such as the Victory Centre for this purpose.
REPORT:
Two new primary schools for Firhouse opened in September 2013 and are being facilited in temporary accommodation in the Firhouse Community Centre and the Tymon Bawn Community Centre. The existing situation is short term and SDCC is working with the Department of Education and Skills to find alternative accommodation for these schools by September 2014. All possible options in the area, both on publicly and privately owned sites, including the Victory Church are currently being investigated. The site identified to be reserved for a school in the draft Ballycullen-Oldcourt LAP is likely to be required to serve future residential development, but will also be considered, should the draft LAP be adopted.
