QUESTION NO. 11

QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner

To ask the Manager to investigate the possibility of bringing the Disappeared Exhibition to Clondalkin for display in the Civic Offices or in some other suitable space?  I recently viewed the exhibition in City Hall in Belfast and feel that it would be good to enable people in Clondalkin to view it.

REPLY:

An Exhibition on the Disappeared of Northern Ireland

An exhibition on the disappeared was on display in Belfast City Hall from October 15th to the 7th November 2013. As stated on their website http://thedisappearedni.co.uk/ the organisers are hopeful that the exhibition will be transferred to Dublin.

With regards to holding the exhibition in the Civic Offices or Clondalkin Library, there would be difficulty in holding an exhibition of this size due to space constraints in these buildings. The display consists of a substantial number of exhibition boards including life size images of the disappeared together with their stories.

Further consideration can be given to the possibility of holding the exhibition in an alternative more suitable location in the county with the capacity to host such an event however these venues are commercially operated venues which will incur additional costs such as venue rent, security and promotional. There is however no provision in the adopted 2014 Budget for such expenditure.
