MOTION: Councillor D. Looney

That this Committee receives a report on the Dublin 12 Pilot Laneway Cleansing programme, and that particular attention be given to the laneways in the Perrystown area which have yet to be cleansed.

REPORT:

The laneway cleaning programme in Dublin 12 commenced in the second week of July and is scheduled to be completed towards the end of January 2014.  In excess of 80% of the areas included in the schedule have now been completed, with 2 to 3 laneways scheduled for cleaning each week since the commencement of the programme.  The laneways mentioned in the Perrystown area have been included on the schedule.  Laneways in the Rockfield, Hillsbrook and Muckross areas are due to be cleaned during week commencing Monday December 16th.   It appears that a number of laneways which were included on the programme have not been cleaned to a satsifactory standard.  This matter is currently being examined, a thorough survey of all areas is required to establish the situation at each laneway and this survey is underway.  Any laneway found not to have been cleaned to a satisfactory standard will be revisited at the end of the programme in January/February.  It is proposed to present a more detailed headed item report to the Tallaght Area Committee at the January meeting at which time the laneway programme will be nearing completion.
