COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, December 10, 2013
MOTION NO. 13
MOTION: Councillor A.M. Dermody
"That the Manager provide an overview as to the acceptable quality of footpaths, in the Rathfarnham Ward so as to ensure that there is no health and safety concerns. For example where there is a marked difference in path surfaces, caused by tree roots or otherwise, what is the Council's legal obligations to its citizens. There are examples of such differences in levels where the Council have repaired the paths and have failed/neglected to match new levels to existing path levels."
REPORT:
The growth of tree roots is a cause of damage to footpaths by their lifting action. When notified of a location where damage has occured, Parks / Public Realm Section are requested to remove the tree in question. On removal of the tree, repairs are then carried out to the path. It is South Dublin County Council Roads Section policy to carry out footpath construction / repair in accordance with NRA guidelines. The level of any new paths will match the level of an adjacent existing slab.
