QUESTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin
To ask the Manager for a report on illegal bonfires at Halloween including the following information (with the information expressed as a global figure for SDCC and with a break down for each LEA):
- the total number of illegal bonfires per year from 2010 to 2013
- the cost of the clean up operation arising from the bonfires from 2010 to 2013
- the number of reports of illegal bonfire wood received by SDCC in advance of Halloween in 2012 and 2013
- the number of these reports responded to and resulting in the removal of the bonfire wood
- the number of these reports not responded to and not resulting in the removal of the bonfire wood?
REPLY:
Illegal bonfires are an ongoing feature of Halloween. Bonfires waste valuable Council resources in the removal and disposal of material. Communities also suffer from the social, economic and environmental cost.
