MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

Monday, December 09, 2013

MOTION NO.

MOTION: Councillor D. Looney

Mayors Business

That this Council calls on local people to support local jobs by shopping with local traders in the run up to Christmas, and asks that this call be publicised on the Council website and via its social networks.

REPORT:

This Christmas, South Dublin County Council, as in previous years will run a campaign on the Council's Website, Twitter and Facebook pages asking local people and businesses to 'Think Local'. With effect from Monday 2nd December, the Communications Unit will ask our followers to 'Think Local' and shop in the County's villages and retail centres in the run up to Christmas and the New Year. A poster for each of the villages will be displayed with the 'Think Local' tag line. This initiative aims to create and develop community awareness of the advantages and benefits of supporting local businesses. Think Local asks you as an individual or as a business to make a conscious decision to switch some of your existing spend to local products, services and facilities in South Dublin County.  By switching some of your existing 'spend' to products and services locally in South Dublin County you can ensure that jobs are created and saved locally. Elected members are encouraged to re-post these messages on their own individual social media sites.

Think Local for Christmas 2013!
