QUESTION NO. 14
QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
"To ask the Manager to note that there have been many complaints from residents and road users about delays caused by the works on roundabouts in the Willsbrook Road area of Lucan, and also, that the need for and objective of the works being carried out has been questioned, and if he will provide a Report outlining the reasons for the carrying out of the works and the anticipated benefits from the completed works?"
REPLY:
The works are necessary to improve facilities for vulnerable road users which are necessarily at the expense of other road users as part of the National Transport Authority Cycle Network Plan for the Greater Dublin Area. The plan is to upgrade cycle facilities and improvements for vulnerable road users. Willsbrook Road forms part of this new Network and includes for a cycle track running from Griffeen to Liffey Valley. The main benefits of the scheme will include improved pedestrian crossings, improved public lighting, a shared off road safe cycle track installation, improved cycle crossings and improved junction designs.
The works are being carried out in accordance with an approved Traffic Management Plan which restricts working on the carriageway during peak hours. Inevitably there will be some disruption to traffic when resurfacing works are underway but every effort is being made by the Site Supervisory staff to minimise the disruption.
