MOTION NO.8

MOTION: Councillor M. Corr

That the Manager provides an explanation for the lack of progress in relation to the upgrading of litter bins and public realm on the Brookfield Road.

REPORT:

The County Council has recently carried out works to improve the overall appearance of the Brookfield Road  i.e. the litter bins on the road have been re-painted and the frontage of the Halting Site at St. Aidans has been cleaned up.  In relation to the works at the Halting Site, the old broken down fence, boulders and the dead/broken trees on the mounds have been removed. The area has also been litter picked and tidied up. The roadside margin along the front of the site has also been sprayed, strimmed and tidied up. As a result of thes works, the overall appearance of the Brookfield Road is now considerably improved.

With regard to the remainder of the Brookfield Road, because of the serious ongoing litter problem here associated with the shops, the roadside margins and adjoining open spaces are litter picked on a very frequent basis, over and above the normal planned works schedule for the area. The remaining works to be undertaken at this location include the cutting back of the hedge along the road, which will be carried out in the next two weeks, and the landscaping of the margin fronting the halting site which is to be carried out when ground conditions permit.
