COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

MOTION NO. 14
MOTION: Councillor C. King
"That this Committee calls on the Manager to provide a report on the progress made if any on the Council owned units at Gleann Na h-Eorna, Cookstown Way that have remained vacant for more than two years with thousands of people waiting to be housed and can the Manager make a detailed statement on the matter".
REPORT:
Due to a number of protracted and complex legal matters, regrettably it has not been possible yet to transfer full lawful ownership of the 14 substantially complete units in Gleann na h-Eorna, Cookstown Way development to South Dublin County Council.
The units in question were initially identified for onward disposal to eligible applicants as part of the Council's Affordable Homes Scheme. However as the Housing Policy Statement (June 2011) announced the standing down of all existing affordable housing programmes to reflect current affordability conditions, and the Council is now committed to acquisition of the units, which were developed by Respond! Housing Association, for onward availability to person on the council's housing waiting list.
Currently the Council is in active discussions with Respond! Housing Association to acheive a mechanism to advance early occupancy of the 14 units.
