MOTION NO.9

MOTION: Councillor M. Devine

"That this Committee commit to the provision of a Skate/BMX Park for the  Tallaght area."

REPORT:

The Council was recently contacted by BMX Ireland in relation to the provision of a BMX facility in the county.  BMX Ireland were interested in assessing the county for suitability for BMX, and arrangements were made to carry out a general scoping exercise across the county.  As a result of this exercise, a number of locations, that might be suitable for further consideration for BMX, were identified.

However, until issues of viability and sufficient interest from a group to manage such a facility, organise and run events and competitions, provide training and manage safety accreditation, as well as issues in relation to financing the construction and ongoing maintenance of a such a facility have been fully worked through, it is not proposed to consider such a project for inclusion in the 3 Year Capital Programme.  In the meantime the Council will continue to liaise with BMX Ireland on the matter.

The Members will be kept informed of any developments.
