MOTION NO. 3
MOTION: Councillor M. Corr
That this committee requests the Manager to investigate the feasibility of a scheme/project whereby the Council ring-fences/sources some suitable accommodation for single fathers who are homeless and have applied for accommodation in the Tallaght area.
REPORT:
South Dublin County Council allocated 70 1 bed units in 2012. 19 of these were to homeless applicants. In the same period we also moved 24 homeless into private rented accommodation. This year we have allocated 35 1 bed units. 10 have been to homeless and 11 have been accommodated in private rented.
Homeless applicants that have access to their children over weekends are accommodated in 2 bedroom units. The allocations of such units for 2012 have been 7 with 2 private rented. This year we have allocated 6 and assisted 4 move into private rented . Currently there are 13 applicants on the homeless list that require 2 bed accommodation.
Once an applicant is accepted as being homeless they are provided with a letter to enable them to apply for rent supplement for their appropriate housing need. The Councils Leasing Section continues to seek housing units with a view to meeting all accommodation needs.
