MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor P. Kearns

That this council calls on the Manager to arrange for a yearly rotation system to be put in place in relation to road sweeping during the Autumn season. This would ensure that each area receives equitable treatment.

REPORT:

Road Sweeping, including leaf removal, within the County is carried out on a contract basis with the  Road Sweeping schedule available on the Council's website. This schedule provides information for the subsequent 6 months with all residential areas receiving the same level of service.

Set schedules are not generally operated in relation to leaf removal as the service tends to have a more responsive requirement. Locations identified as requiring service through inspections, reports, complaints or individual requests to Environmental Services are collated and notified to the contractor. The service response to these notifications is generally within the required timeframe.

At times of heavy, widespread leaf fall, area by area schedules are operated in addition to the normal sweeping schedules. These additional services are prioritised on the basis of need.

Notifications to the contractor or area by area schedules being operated will from now on be published in the Scheduling System on the website.
