HEADED ITEM NO.
HEADED ITEM: M. Hannon
Proposed pedestrian and cycle path at Belgard Heights
REPLY:
The following report was presented to the Tallaght Area Committee Meeting (1) on the 22nd October 2012
Tá sé comhaontaithe go ba chóir nasc cosán a chur ar fáil ar feadh an dúil-líne atá ann cheana féin ag trasnú an spás oscailte in aice leis an stad Luas Belgard, chun rochtain ar an Luas go háirithe do na cónaitheoirí ina gcónaí sa réimsí na Cluaintí Thoir agus an tArd Alpach a Éascú. Bhéadh costas thart ar € 10,000 ar thógáil cosán tarramhacadam ag an suíomh seo, le haghaidh nach bhfuil aon cistí ar fáil faoi láthair. Rachaidh an Rannóg Páirceanna, Áfach, i gcomhairle leis an RPA chun iniúchadh a dhéanamh ar an bhféidearthacht an cosán seo a chur ar fáil trí comhsocrú maoiniúcháin, i gcomhthéacs an Clár Oibreacha na bPáirceanna na bliana seo chugainn don cheantar agus ar mhaithe le feabhas a chur ar rochtain phoiblí ar an Stad Luas.
It is agreed that a footpath link should be provided along the existing desire-line crossing the open space adjacent to the Belgard Luas stop, to facilitate access to the Luas particularly for those residents living in the Meadows East and Alpine Rise areas. The construction of a tarmacadam footpath at this location would cost in the region of €10,000, for which there are no funds currently available. The Parks Section will however, consult with the RPA to explore the possibility of having this footpath provided through a joint funding arrangement, in the context of next years Parks Works Programme for the area and in the interest of improving public access to the Luas Stop.
Since then there has been consultation with the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) and agreement has been reached in principle on the funding of this project. Should the funding be confirmed it is proposed to undertake the work in 2013 and subject to weather conditions.
A location map is attached for information.
