That this Committee calls on the Manager to prioritise the installation of a new playground, on a phased and least costly basis first, on the Tymon North side of Tymon Park and to give a timescale as to when such works could commence. 

REPORT:

The Part 8 Public Consultation for the proposal to construct a replacement for the Tymon Park playground on the Tymon North side of the park was approved by the Elected Members in 2011. 

The playground proposal is quite ambitious in terms of cost and vision and this is consistent with the Regional Park status of Tymon Park. 

The plans incorporate both formal play equipment and utilising the surrounding landscape to create "natural play features" that will allow for children to formulate their own play in an individual manner.  It also incorporates the significant biodiversity features of the site into the plan and in such a way that these will also be play features in themselves but without compromising the biodiversity integrity of the area.

In order to commence the project it is proposed to advance it on a phased basis by implementing separate elements of the proposal over a period of years.

It is planned to commence the first phase of this project in 2014 subject to the necessary funding.  The Elected Members will be briefed on the elements of the full project and the planned Phase 1 at a future ACM.
