QUESTION NO. 9
QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
To ask the Manager to provide details (including costs) of contractors employed by the Council for ongoing works relating to the maintenance of the public realm (e.g. grass-cutting, litter management, hedge-cutting, etc) in each of the past five years?
REPLY:
Members are aware that responsibility for the maintenance of the Public Realm was until this year held by the Environment and Parks Sections which have now been amalgamated. The Maintenance Programmes come mainly under the main headings of Grass Cutting, Litter Managerment and Tree/Hedge Management etc and are carried out by Council Staff.
There are two areas where this maintenance work is contracted out and the following are the costs associated with each over the last 5 years -
2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | Estimated 2013 | |
Street Sweeping Contracts | €2,770,786 | €3,165,377 | €2,766,174 | €2,520,829 | €2,055,259 | €2,000,000 |
Hire of specialist Tree Surgeons | €76,706 | €30,569 | €31,215 | €9,992 | €25,255 |
