MOTION NO. 8

MOTION: Councillor M. Devine

That this Council supports the temporary use of derelict sites within the County as "Pop-up" passive recreational public spaces that will benefit the citizens of SDCC

REPORT:

Under the provisions of the Derelict Sites Act, the removal of dereliction is required of the landowner upon whom Notice under the Act has been served. Landowners may make submissions to the Local Authority to propose works and/or uses that would remove and/or prevent the continuance of the dereliction. The removal of the dereliction is the objective of the process and this Council is very much open to proposals for imaginative uses or works that will acheive that goal.

There are a number of good examples around the country where Local Authorities have facilitated imaginative and positive uses for such sites and this Council is open to such proposal provided they are legal (eg under Planning etc) and that they remove or prevent derliction. Landowners and controling agents are being advised of the Council's willingness to discuss such proposals during the engagement process.
