QUESTION NO. 4
QUESTION: Councillor T. Gilligan
To ask the Manager to outline council policy in relation to allowing residents to pay for services. e.g. is it 50/50 with the council? In relation to tree pruning, what would the cost be to residents? Can they get trees pruned from private companies elsewhere?
REPLY:
The pruning of trees in public areas forms part of the Council's Arboricultural Programme which is carried out bi-annually in the Spring and in the Autumn by trained and qualified staff from the Council's Public Realm. The Tree Maintenance (Arboricultrual ) programme is formualted on clearly identified criteria which includes dead dangerous and diseased trees, trees interfering with public lighting and where the roots of trees are uplifting footpaths and works to be included are consistent with good arboricultural practice.
The Annual Tree Maintenance Programme is the subject of consultation with the Members at Area Commitee level to enable the Members to have input into areas of concern. The Arboricultural Programme is funded from the Counci's Revenue Resources.
The maintenance of trees on private lands are a matter for the private landowner.
