FILLING OF CASUAL VACANCY ON SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL IN ACCORDANCE WITH S.19 OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 2001 FOLLOWING THE RESIGNATION OF COUNCILLOR MATTHEW McDONAGH BY MR. EOIN Ó BROIN

REPLY:

A casual vacancy has occurred on South Dublin County Council (Clondalkin Electoral Area) as Councillor Matthew McDonagh has announced his resignation from South Dublin County Council with effect from 10th September 2013.

Section 19 of the Local Government Act 2001 provides that a casual vacancy shall be filled by the co-option by the local authority of a person to fill the vacancy and such co-option shall be made at the next meeting of the local authority after the expiration of 14 days from the occurrence of the vacancy or as soon after the expiration of the 14 days as circumstances permit.

Mr. Eoin Ó Broin has been duly nominated by the Sinn Féin party, being the registered political party who nominated Councillor McDonagh for election, and in accordance with Section 19 (5) Mr. Ó Broin's  written consent to his proposed co-option has been received.

Members are required to ratify the co-option of Mr. Ó Broin at today's meeting.
