MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

QUESTION NO.8

QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

"To ask the Manager to state which parks in the area under the remit of this Committee are accessible for those using mobility scooters, to state which entrances can be used, and to make a statement regarding access to our parks for those who are disabled in general?"

REPLY:

To facilitate access to Parks by disabled persons using mobility scooters, a number of K Barriers have been installed in Park Entrances in recent years. These barriers allow access for mobility scooters but prevent access to motorbikes and have been installed at the following locations;

 In general, these barriers have proved successful and all our Parks are for the most part accessible to wheelchair users. However problems can arise with the larger electric wheel chairs and mobility scooters which can be difficult to navigate through the normal 'kissing gate' type entrances .  It is hoped over a period of time to deal with this issue through the installation of additional K barriers and replacement of kissing gates, as funds become available.
