MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

Monday, June 24, 2013

QUESTION NO 1.

QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff

"Would the Manager please indicate what progress has been made regarding  acknowledging Robbie Keane's achievements in Irish International soccer and recognising his standing as Irelands most capped player and highest goal scorer, further to my motion which was passed at this Tallaght Area Committee on the 20th of June 2011?"

REPLY: When Tallaght Stadium was under construction, a decision was taken to officially name it "Tallaght Stadium" with the intention that if the issue of naming rights should arise, the Stadium would be "clean" and that the Stadium in its entirety or some of its components could avail of commercial naming rights for financial reasons. The economy is not yet recovered to maximise the full potential in this regard and the matter is kept under review. The Council has acknowledged Robbie's fine achievements along with those of Richard Dunne and Damian Duff, when they were granted the Freedom Of the County which is the highest honour that can be bestowed by the Council.
