QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor T. Gilligan
To ask the Manager what initiatives can the Council initiate to tackle the issue of illegal dumping on the New Nangor Road towards Newcastle?
REPLY:
This area is patrolled on a daily basis by the Litter Warden. The Litter Warden interrogates any dumped material found in the area and appropriate enforcement action is taken under the Litter Pollution Act 1997, as amended, where evidence is found.
To assist the Council in dealing with the problem of illegal dumping in this area, members of the public are urged and encouraged to make reports to the Litter Warden for investigation and also by providing evidence and testifying in court where necessary.
In a further effort to clamp down on the practice of illegal dumping throughout the County, South Dublin County Council's Waste Enforcement Officers are engaged in the surveillance of illegal waste operators and the Council is fully committed to taking the appropriate enforcement action against all such illegal activity.
