QUESTION NO.6

QUESTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

To ask that the Manager outline how much was received in 2012 from the State in motor tax receipts?  Did this funding go fully into road works?  How much of the council's own money was spent on road works?  And what figure is this as a % of the total spent on road works / road improvements in 2012?

REPLY:

In  2011 South Dublin County Council received €18,087,797 from the Local Government Fund, in 2012 the LGF allocation was €16,485,014, of that a figure of  €2,242,420 was assigned to the overall Road Transport and Safety budget which in total is €25,754,000.

The table below sets out expenditure and receipts [grant allocations] in respect of road maintenance works carried out in South Dublin County. The Council is required each year to submit an outputs return to the National Roads Authority Regional and Local Roads Unit outlining the councils own resource contribution to road maintenance.

The expenditure figures include wages, plant hire internal and external, minor contracts and materials as well as additional own resources expenditure under the footpath refurbishment programme. 

Based on the figures above the grant aid received accounted for 41.3% of the total expenditure incurred on road works in 2012 and the Council own resource contribution was 58.7%
