COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

MOTION NO.
MOTION: Councillor D. Looney
Cathaoirleachs Business
That this Committee, in appreciation of the ongoing retraining and reorganisation of the Council's outdoor staff, requests that continued care be taken with regard to grass cutting in Council parks and green spaces, particularly with regard to avoiding grass clumping on paths and walkways.
REPORT:
Staff in the Public Maintenance Division take great care and pride in the maintenance of green areas and open space and do endeavour to cut grass from the outside in order to minimise the transfer of grass on to roads and public footpaths but issues can arise from time to time during periods of excessive grass growth and during periods of wet weather which can result in increased volumes of grass cuttings. In such instances and where grass is transferred onto paths the procedure is to arrange for the sweeping of the path afterward. This is necessarily dependent on the available resources to do so.
In the course of the retraining of staff into Parks and Landscape operational work the need for them to be cognisant of the problem of grass spillage onto paths will be emphasised.
