COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

QUESTION NO. 13
QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
"To ask the Manager if we would agree to examine the feasibility of seeking greater public access to the grounds of Lucan House and if he would meet with the elected members on this specific matter?"
REPLY:
While the objective does have some merit there are significant practical issues. The house and grounds are in the ownership and control of the Italian Government. Given their diplomatic status the house and grounds sit outside of normal Irish planning and property legislation. While the Manager is generally open to meeting with the Elected Members on matters, it is unclear in this case, what a meeting would achieve. However, if the Committee agrees, a letter could issue to the Italian ambassador asking for consideration of the above matter.
