QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Manager to give a report on the scale of illegal dumping in the area under the remit of this Committee, indicating the tonnage, nature of this waste, time taken to clear it and the rate of enforcement being achieved with regard to fines, etc?"
REPLY:
The Council Cleansing Section and later the Operations section (2011) collected illegally dumped waste from public areas within the county. This volume of waste collected by the units was not categorised by area as the vehicles travelled throughout the county.
The attached table indicates the volume of waste collected in the County by Cleansing and Operations in the period 2008 to 2012.

Over 21 working days in a seven week period from January 2013 to February 2013 the Operations Section, Ballymount collected over 12.66 tonnes of dumped material in Tallaght central area. Most of this waste was removed from the green spaces within the residential areas. This volume of waste was in addition to that collected by the Cleansing section who oversaw the collection of litterbins, fly tipping. The majority of this waste was dumped waste including domestic refuse, household junk and burnt furniture/wheelie bins. To facilitate the crews removing the burnt waste it wasa necessary to employ a JCB with the crews on site.
Since January 2013 to date 84 fines / notices have been issued in the Tallaght Area.
