QUESTION NO. 4
QUESTION: Councillor M. Devine
To ask the Manager what costs have been incurred in collection of illegal dumping within Tallaght Central area and furnish members with the tonnage amounts both pre and post privatisation of the waste services ?
REPLY:
Prior to and following the privatisation of the domestic refuse bins the Council Cleansing Section and later the Operations section (2011) collected illegally dumped waste from public areas within the county. This volume of waste collected by the units was not categorised by area as the vehicles travelled throughout the county.
The attached table indicates the volume of waste collected in the County by Cleansing and Operations in the period 2008 to 2013.
Litter bins | Junk | Clean up | Operations
Total 2008 | 285 | 1333 | 2550
Total 2009 | 282 | n/a | 1237 | |
Total 2010 | 293 | n/a | 1137 | |
Total 2011 | 320.699 | n/a | 968.729 | 879 |
Total 2012 | 351.1 | n/a | 815.88 | 760 |
Over 21 working days in a seven week period from January 2013 to February 2013 the operations section collected over 12.66 tonnes of dumped material in Tallaght central area. This volume of waste was in addition to that collected by the Cleansing section who oversaw the collection of litterbins, fly tipping.
