QUESTION NO.1

QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr

"To ask the Manager to ensure that swift and appropriate action is taken with regard to the accumulation of household waste and illegal dumping in the front garden of * address supplied  given the serious environmental hazard for nearby residents that now exists at this location due to lack of action to date despite several reports to the Litter Warden?"

REPLY:

The Council received 7 reports in relation to illegal dumping in the front garden of the above property between the dates of 19th November 2012 and 26th April 2013.  On each occasion the Litter Warden carried out an inspection of the property. On 6 of these occasions, the Litter Warden reported that the area had been cleared of all rubbish.  The most recent investigation by the Litter Warden revealed that the house is currently unoccupied.

An investigation has also been conducted by an Environmental Health Officer who has ascertained details of the Letting Agency who are acting on behalf of the owner.  Contact was made with the Letting Agency on Friday 17th May 2013. A letter instructing the owner to have the garden cleared of all household waste and dumped material within 5 days was issued on 20th May 2013 to the Letting Agency for delivery to the owner. Appropriate enforcement action will be taken if this instruction is not complied with and the Council will engage with the Private Rented Tenancy Board in an effort to pursue all options available to deal with this issue.
