MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

MOTION NO. 5

MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

"That this Committee requests Management to investigate the feasibility of putting a dog toilet close to the car park in Waterstown Park on a pilot basis and if it proves satisfactory it could be replicated elsewhere in the County.  This is a facility that works well in other countries and should be easier and more economical to service than the footpaths through the park which are a total disgrace most of the time."

REPORT:

Where a dog is in a public place, responsibility for the dog, which includes cleaning up after the animal, rests with the owner. The Council has no proposals to provide dog toilets which have been found, in many cases where they have been provided in other countries, to be offensive to the general public.

There are two litter bins provided in Waterstown Park and a number of litter bins in the general vicinity of the park which are available for the disposal of dog litter. The Council will continue to facilitate the disposal of dog waste through the litter bin system and to prosecute irresponsible dog owners who fail to clean up after their dog.
