MOTION NO. 17
MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"That this Committee, as a first step in devising a plan for Rathfarnham Village, carries out a study regarding the business and residential population of the Village; in the case of the Village categorised into business type - in order to build a proper picture of the needs of the village and to enable adequate and dynamic of the planned future of the Village and its environs."
REPORT:
Each village has been considered holistically as part of the Villages Initiative. The Initiative is community-led and focuses on volunteer-supported organisations with a view to helping them to help themselves. South Dublin County Council's role is to provide limited funding (to match funding raised by the voluntary groups, Tidy Towns committees and community organisations), to provide advisory and logistical support and workshops, as requested.
The council have also carried out a survey of each historic village core in terms of usage and presentation which includes an analysis of the existing commercial and retail profile of each village. These surveys will be shared with the local Tidy Towns committees to assist them with the preparation of their 3-year Tidy Towns plans. The surveys will be presented to the members for consideration for which projects and works and recommendations might be carried out from the council's funding streams, or from other national bodies, NTA etc.
The Village Initiative involves consultation with local community groups and representatives as to how best the village can be improved for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors. The Village Initiative is paralleled by work carried out by the Economic Strategic Policy Committee and the pilot projects.
