MOTION NO.6
MOTION: Councillor G. Kenny
That this elected body and South Dublin County Council urgently review its Control of Horses Act 1996 and its Bye-Laws in relation to the recent High Court judgement regarding the impounding of horses in the county. It calls on the Department of Agriculture to investigate South Dublin County Council's policy of the implementation of the Control of Horses Act and its Bye Laws over the last two years.
REPORT:
Members are aware that Management that the Council has committed to a review of the Bye Laws but that this process was necessarily delayed pending the outcome of the Judicial Review case referred to. Now that the ruling has been issued, it's impact is being considered by the Council's Environmental Services and Law Departments and contact has also been made with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
Once the impact has been considered a decision will be made on how to best to proceed.
