QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff
"To ask the manager to make a report to this Committee regarding any application by the residents, either currently or historically, about the closure or "taking in" of the laneway at the rear of Raheen Close and would he advise this Committee about the outcome of any such request?"
REPLY:
An area of land to the rear of houses in Raheen Close remains in the ownership of Dublin City Council. The area in question is part of an agreed exchange of lands between South Dublin County Council and Dublin City Council. The exchange is being pursued with Dublin City Council.
This land is currently being maintained by the Parks Department. A Meeting was held recently between the Parks Department and residents of Raheen Estate during which the possible closure of this land was discussed. The closure would be on the basis of the County Council retaining vehicle access to the lands for future maintenance purposes, i.e for cleaning, grass cutting and maintenance of sewers, watermains etc. It is proposed if approved, the site would be secured using 2.4 m high palisade fencing with vehicle gate. The residents in Raheen undertook to seek support for this closure. It is understood that a petition with signatures from residents of Raheen and Whitebrook will be submitted to the Council in the near future.
