MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor C. King

"That this Committee calls on the Manager to provide a detailed report highlighting what progress has been in relation to progressing the proposed MUGA at Dominic's Community Centre since the meeting between the Amplifying Voices project and the Parks Dept which took place on Wednesday March 20th. That this report indicate - has the funding stream from the Dept of Children been opened for submissions, has the report compiled by the children in the project which outlines their canvass reports, their design proposals based on same and their experiences and lessons learned so far been collected from them yet as agreed, has this report been included in the application for funding and finally has the application for funding been completed taking into consideration the time and effort that the children have put into the project and their expectation of the Councils full support in fulfilling its obligations by submitting the application as soon as the funding stream opens".

REPORT:

A number of meetings have been held with the Amplifying Voices group at St. Dominic’s Community Centre.  The group have proposed the construction of a MUGA in association with the Centre management and adjacent to the centre and to also have an associated playground constructed.  The group presented sketch plans of their proposal.  This proposal is now being designed up to allow for it to be submitted for possible funding to the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.  The location and design is taking account of the proposal for an extension of the centre as well as the possible provision of other amenities in the future.  The Council is working to have the design and submission prepared and ready for application when the funding stream is announced.

The Council is fully supportive of the plans of the Amplifying Voices Group and the St. Dominic’s Community Centre.
