MOTION NO. 9
MOTION: Councillor M. Corr
That this committee discusses the appropriateness of Estate agents using private rented properties to advertise their business given the negative impact and transient impression this can give of entire housing estates and communities and considers proposing a voluntary code of conduct to estate agents managing and letting residential properties in the Tallaght area.
REPORT:
With respect to the display of signage for the sale or letting of property Class 9 of Article 6 Part 2- Exempted Development- Advertisements of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended) sets out particular exemptions from Planinng permission for this form of advertisement. There are some limitations but these mainly relate to the size of signage. Given the existence of this class of exemption and that many estate agents are national or at least city wide in their activity a voluntary code solely for Tallaght may not be practical. However, in the light of the above motion and the broad nature of the exemption, that the Department of Environment Hertiage and Local government be written to with a view to further limiting this exemption class particulaly in relation to properties that are being let.
