COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)
Monday, April 29, 2013
MOTION NO. 10
MOTION: Councillor C. King
"That this Committee calls on the Manager to provide a report which states whether or not there could be oportunities for subsidised 'Pop Up Shops' in the Tallaght Town Centre Lands (Masterplan lands) in vacant private or Council owned units which could give entrepreneurs an opportunity to test the viability of an economic proposal in the area with the possibility of success and jobs to follow".
REPORT:
The Council has investigated the temporary use of vacant retail units for short term niche retailing and creative uses particularly to reinvigorate and animate the area adjacent to the Luas Line at the entrance to Tallaght Town Centre. Unfortunately, the fit out, service and running costs as required under the proposed conditions currently appear to make the project unviable. However, negotiations continue in this regard and the Council continues to be actively involved with both NAMA and the appointed reciever(s) with a view to actively reinvigorating commercial areas.
