MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
"That the Council write to An Garda Siochana requesting that the 3 Tonne restriction on Kennelsfort Road be enforced and that a discussion take place on what other options are open to the Council to restrict heavy goods traffic on this road and that Management explain what advantages will accrue from the imposition of the proposed (EU) new heavy vehicle restrictions and when are they likely to be enforceable as residents express a high level of frustration at the inability of "the powers that be" to respond to their request that heavy vehicles be restriced on this residential road."
REPORT:
The Gardaí attend and enforce the restriction on Kennelsfort Road and will be advised of the current request. The restriction will be subject to modification pursuant to the revision in the vehicle weight regulation. The revision will be applicable on the 1st October 2013 and provides for a more specific restriction which could allow for more targeted enforcement. For instance it will be possible to differentiate between heavy goods vehicles from light goods vehicles. A joint Economic Development and Transportation SPC sub Committee is considering a policy for the consideration of vehicle weight restrictions.
