COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, April 23, 2013
MOTION NO. 21
MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
"That this Area Committee requests the Manager to provide a detailed report on the recent review of pedestrian/cycle safety at Newcastle Road; and requests the Manager to agree to the introduction of a three-axel restriction on Newcastle Road, between the N4 & Nangor Road junctions, at limited school start and close times; noting that introduction of a three-axel restriction would support the objective of South Dublin Chamber, as stated in correspondence to this Council dated 27th February, to permit lower weight commercial vehicles access to more of the County’s road infrastructure to support commercial activity in South Dublin County."
REPORT:
A review of signage and pedestrian safety measures along the Newcastle Road has been undertaken and a number of enhancements have been recommended and will now be procured (drawing). The installation of these measures will proceed shortly. In relation to the request to introduce a three axle restriction, as reported at the February meeting, a draft Countywide policy document is being prepared which will be brought back to a final meeting of the sub-committee and then onto the joint Economic Development and Transportation SPC in May for recommendation to Council. Requests for restrictions will then be evaluated under the framework as contained in the policy.
