QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

"To ask the Manager how many property owners, individuals,  builders and developers, have offered housing units for lease to the Council in the Lucan Electoral Area, since January 2011 and how many proposals from owners have been processed to conclusion by the Housing Department?"

REPLY:

Since January 2011, the Council has processed  201 expressions of interest from owners of private property in the Lucan electoral area for inclusion in the Social Housing Leasing Initiative.

Each property was assessed for suitability in accordance with the Council requirements. As at 31/3/13, the Council has secured 40 properties in the Lucan electoral area under lease arrangements and these properties are now tenanted by persons from the Social Housing Waiting List.

There are various reasons why expressions of interest do / did not proceeding to further processing stage.  These include:

• Property owner no longer interested when terms of the scheme and rents payable fully explained
• Property located in an area where there is already in excess of 15% social housing
• Property type unsuitable
• Property did not meet leasing standards following an inspections  

A further 9 cases are currently in process.
