MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

MOTION NO. 12

MOTION: Councillor T. Delaney

That this Committee would like to express serious concern with the issue of cars travelling too fast on Watery Lane from the Woodford Junction to the Village and as well as contacting Gardai for action we would request that the Council prioritise this road for a traffic calming scheme. There is a huge amount of pedestrian traffic along this route as well as there being shops, schools, scouts den and several residential entry/exit points.

REPORT:

The following measures are in place at the village end of the road:

• Pedestrian crossing at the school.
• School Warden operates at school times.
• Pedestrian safety barriers on both sides of the road.
• 2 school warning signs, one on each side of the road.
• School warning markings.
• Traffic light ahead sign.
• School keep clear markings on both sides of the road.
• The issue of speeding on this road has been referred to the Gardai for enforcement.

There is no budget for Traffic Calming measures in 2013.

It should be noted that a number of areas have been selected for priority traffic calming in the Clondalkin area by members in accordance with adopted Council policy in this regard as resources are made available. These areas are located in

(a). Kilcronan/Kilmahuddrick/Grange View/Deansrath and Melrose

(b) Castle Park/Monastery Estate/Monastery Heath/Floraville and old Nangor Road

(c) Lindisfarne/Ashwood/Alpine Heights/St Patricks Estate and Cappaghmore Estate
