SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

MOTION NO. 11
MOTION: Councillor T. Delaney
That this Committee requests the Manager to address the lighting issue at the top of New Road (dead end)/Newlands Road. This is a very dark and quiet corner and has become a 'hang out' area for youths in cars and also the scene of some serious anti-social activity of which the Gardai are aware. I believe an extra lamp to brighten the area would detract individuals from gathering in this corner?
REPORT:
The public lighting configuration at this location is adequate. It is noted that during the recent fortnightly check, there is a fault with public lighting nearby and it is due for repair by the Council’s public lighting maintenance contractor.
Additionally two large private trees, evergreen type, have grown adjacent to the light provided at The Bungalow. This will result in a variance in lighting levels. The area in front of the neighbouring house towards Newlands Cross is in a shadow due to the smaller of the two trees. In the other direction lighting is provided by the next street light. Both the issues can be resolved through appropriate pruning and the relevant householders will be served with the appropriate tree pruning notice under Section 70 of the Roads Act 1993.
