MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

That this Council reviews the efforts of this council in relation to support for the self-employed/sole traders and small businesses in the county

REPORT:

In response to the current economic cliamate this Council is undertaking a series of programmes and inititives aimed at supporting economic development, the continued survival of business in the county and the creation and maintenance of jobs. In drafting, adopting and implementing the Business Support Programme since early 2011 the Council recognised the importance of supporting small business in the County. At the Council meeting in October 2012 Headed Item 15 Supporting economic recovery and jobs  locally detailed existing and planned business supports across the sector and specifically in South Dublin County.

With repect to supporting in particular the self employed/ sole traders the Council supports a series of initiatives which are of value to this community, however it should be recognised that by their nature this community is dispriate in nature. In particular the relavent supports include:

There is a further report on the broader ecomomic/employment strategies in the County listed under Motion 10, also submitted by Cllr Lahart, which subject to the adoption of that Motion, can be the subject of discussion and review at a special Council meeting.
