QUESTION: Councillor J. Lahart

To ask the Manager to outline the status of the free bike scheme in the county?

REPLY:

South Dublin County Council and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council have received funding from the NTA  to prepare a feasibility study examining the possibility of introducing a Public Bike Hire Scheme in Tallaght and Dun Laoghaire.

Accordingly, SDCC and DLRCC are in the process of preparing a brief to procure consultants to :

• examine the demand for such a scheme;
• identify the type of scheme that would be most effective;
• examine the possibility of linking a public bike hire scheme in Tallaght to other bike schemes;
• the potential to expand a public bike hire scheme beyond Tallaght; and
• a cost estimate for the proposed scheme.

Members will be kept informed of progress in this regard.
