MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"That the Manager agree a medium-term review of the maintenance and upkeep of the public pathways and pedestrian areas of Cherryfield Park - residents of the Knocklyon area are almost reluctant to use this park given its messy and unkempt state."

REPORT:

The maintenance of Cherryfield Park, Dodder Valley is focused on providing protection for wildlife, active recreation facilities and walking routes for pedestrians.  Because of the focus on the protection and enhancement of wildlife there are areas that have been allowed to grow and that are not maintained on a regular basis.  This can appear to the public to be indicative of no maintenance being undertaken.  This appearance of no maintenance needs to be addressed by information signage – previous signage was badly vandalised and had to be removed.  The Council will consider alternative options to fixed signage that can be taken to inform the public about the maintenance regime in the more natural areas of the park.  In addition, the edges of the pedestrian paths will be mown on a regular basis which will provide an acceptable interface between the regularly maintained and the less regularly maintained areas. There is also an area used for the storage of compost material and which presents an unkempt appearance and this will be tidied up later in the year.
