QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
To ask the Manager for a report on the Community Employment Scheme as operated by this Council to include the numbers involved, the type of activity engaged in, progression patterns for participants and the possibility for expansion of the numbers involved?
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council currently sponsors six Community Employment Projects with approved numbers for 111 participants and a Job Initiative Project facilitating 7 participants. The participants are assigned to various roles in several Community Centres, Lucan Sports and Leisure Centre, Tallaght Stadium, Fettercairn Horse Project etc.
There is a wide variety of roles within Community Employment, some of them include:
Community Employment Progression rates vary year to year and from one Project to another. We monitor, encourage and support progression through skills and educational training but there are outside factors which can prevent some participants progressing onto employment and/or education.
Analysis at the end of the recent Project roll overs (January 2013) indicated the following:

South Dublin County Council has recently submitted proposals to the Department of Social Protection to expand on the numbers on our Community Employment Projects taking into account the staffing resource needs of SDCC community facilities.
33 extra participant places have been requested to facilitate increased demand in community facilities already staffed by CE participants and to include an additional number of new SDCC community facilities that require staffing resources.
