QUESTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

To ask the Manager to outline how many applications for student grants, SUSI, have been submitted this year?  How much in total are they worth?  How many have been paid out?

REPLY:

Following the setting up of Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) to commence in the Academic Year 2012/2013, all new applicants wishing to apply for a grant were directed to that Agency which is operated by the VEC.

South Dublin County Council however continued to process applications for renewal grants and the following are the statistics in relation to those applications. 

Applications received:               868

Granted:                               787

Ineligible:                             74

Awaiting further information:      7

The total spend from September 2012 to February 2013 (1st and 2nd Maintenance and Fees) is €2.3m.
