QUESTION NO.6

QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

"To ask the Manager to provide an update on my motion (Number 3) from the November meeting of this Committee requesting a bench to be installed in Greenhills Park, and to make a statement on the matter?"

REPLY:

The following report was presented at the December Tallaght Area Committee Meeting 1:

Seating in public parks is considered to be one of the basic elements which contribute to the enjoyment of a park. However, as a result of the experience gained over many years in the provision of seating in parks, it is regrettable that where seating has been provided, it very often becomes the focus and subject of anti-social behaviour and vandalism.

To counter this, the Council has endeavoured to provide robust and vandal resistant seating in our parks at carefully considered locations which minimise the risk of anti-social behaviour, while providing comfort for park users.

Arrangements will be made to examine the pedestrian route between the Holy Spirit Church and the park entrance near the Traders to identify a suitable location where seating might be installed.

It has now been decided to install 3 seats into the park and along the existing pedestrian path.  Prior to the installation, the plan will be discussed with the local community to ensure that there is local knowledge of the proposal and to allow for the active supervision of the facilities.
