QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Manager to state how many (a) primary and (b) post-primary schools in the area under the remit of this Committee have been in receipt of one Green Flag, two Green Flags, three Green Flags, four Green Flags and five or more Green Flags (including the Green Homes flag); to ask how many (a) primary and (b) post-primary schools in the area under the remit of this Committee have not embarked on the Green Schools programme; and to make a statement on the Green Schools programme in this area in general.?"
REPLY:
The Green Schools programme is an international environmental programme targetting schools under the following themes - Litter and Waste, Energy, Water, Travel, Biodiversity and Climate Change. http://www.greenschoolsireland.org/. The programme is organised by an Taisce and implemented by the staff of the Council.
In the Tallaght Central and Tallaght South areas the statistics regarding schools involved in the programme are as follows
Total number of Post Primary Schools - 9
The Green Schools programme is supported by the Council in many ways including the following - twice yearly School newsletter Green Times ; Eco week workshops; competitions and visits to schools by environmental awareness staff.
